Years of Refusal News and Reviews

Wecome to Years of Refusal -a site dedicated to Morrisseys new album, Years of Refusal. His ninth solo studio album, is it more of the same lyrical wit and wisdom from the former Smiths frontman?

After all the hype and speculation surrounding the albums artwork what does the album hold musically?

Hopefully on this site you can get some answers to these questions before the albums release on the 16th February...

The Morrissey Smiths Disco at the Star and Garter

On Friday I had the pleasure of going to the Morrissey Smiths Disco event at the Star and Garter in Manchester. Apart from having to queue for an hour in yet more arctic conditions the night was thoroughly enjoyable.

If you are lucky enough to live in Manchester then the event takes place every first Friday of the month but beware of the one in one out policy once the venue is full. To be fair we were warned by the licensee as soon as we arrived at about 11.30 but will defo get there earlier next time. Once in a mixed crowd created an atmosphere more joyous than non Smiths fans would ever envisage!

Playing a mixture of Smiths and Morrissey tracks that spans his career the devoted crowd were in good spirits in aniticipation of further new material released on the 16th February

The next event is on Friday 6 March – check out the website for more details… Star and Garter

as a semi- regular at the morrissey-smiths nights i cannot praise it highly enough , the star and garter itself is a bit of a dump but once your get used to that it only adds to the charm of the evening and the draught beer is probably best avoided if you do not want a hangover the next day(take my advice -stick to bottled beer ) – apart from these very small gripes ,some of the best nights out i have ever had have been there . it is a really cool crowd (no pretentious wankers ) and my missus and i have made several friends in the four years or so that we have been going – the door and bar staff are ok also and i have personally only ever seen one very minor scuffle there which was sorted out with the mimimum of fuss . the age range is varied ,anything from teens to people of almost OAP status and whatever your age you will not feel too old /or too young which can be a problem in a lot of manchester clubs(as i have found recently being not much younger that the great mozfather !) i would recommend this night to anyone with even the slighest interest in the smiths or morrissey and am looking forward to going again on march 06th – get there early to avoid queuing, doors open 9pm
